The field of information technology is one of the fastest growing and most popular career choices in the modern world. Success stories of people who have changed careers to information technology (IT) abound on the television and web. Banks Falling Behind Pace of Innovation in Mobile Apps

The proliferation of new devices and operating systems makes the pace of change in mobile hard for many organizations to keep up with. But banks seem to be particularly apt to fall behind the pace of innovation in mobile, according to a new study released by CSC and Finextra. Banks are now seeing more logins through their mobile channel than online, yet the survey found levels of investment in mobile applications that indicated that banks aren’t investing new mobile applications. Nearly half (45%) of the institutions in the study said that they are investing less than 5% of their IT budget in mobile development, suggesting that those banks are more interested in maintaining their current mobile apps than building new ones, the study concluded.

One of the key drivers of increased usage of mobile banking apps is the ability for customers to do more within the app. Greater self-servicing capability, payment functionality and account integration are all moving from the desktop to the mobile device. As functionality increases, so does the challenge of maintaining a good user experience as the mobile applications begin to feel busy. In the past year, banks seem to have focused primarily on adding functionality, but future spoils will go to those who are able to combine increased functionality with an improved user experience through better navigation and design.

Instant medical data from patient to doctor

Apps connected to wearable devices are becoming prevalent in the industry. The Economist recently described how a high blood pressure patient was prescribed a wrist monitor, which takes his blood pressure throughout the day and transmits the data to a smartphone app. The app sends the readings directly to the doctor. As the article says, “Portable blood-pressure monitors have been around for a while. But the idea of linking a tiny, wearable one to a smartphone and a software app is an example of how entrepreneurs are harnessing wireless technology to create innovative services.”

Mobile Apps are continually changing the world we live in, with remarkable new applications being developed every day. Health and hospital apps, in particular, represent an area of incredible innovation, as ordinary people and their doctors are able to use these apps to gain data and provide insights with an ease that we have never seen before. These apps can save you time, money and more and more each day, they may be able to save your life.

That’s a tough question, but then again I like challenges. Let’s go to the root of all evils here to try and acknowledge how we can engage more women in technology effectively so that it doesn’t end up just being another class where you do minimal effort to pass because it will never be practical for you, education. To effectively engage women in any topic, you have to teach them something that they will appreciate and use for the rest of their lives. The way to do this must not only be filled with practicality but also be interesting and interactive because using technology doesn’t occur on paper. Students should be taught how to use the internet, as well as programming and Microsoft Office(basic computer use is included). This is so that they not only know how to use technology but also appreciate the vast amounts of work that go on behind the scenes that occurred to get that product that they’re using in front of them. This should also give them a framework so that they can later on pursue further education in this sector on their own if they want. To do this, as important as having the tools with them to use, you also need a teacher that is passionate about technology, but students shouldn’t be our only target here. The faculty and staff should also be given relevant training because it is them that will have the ability to use what they’ve learned everyday for their workloads and also influence the students all throughout their school life. Everyday hundreds, maybe even thousands of parents, mostly women, wait for their children in schools when they go for coaching. Why not teach them as well about technology while they’re waiting? We have to engage women on all levels, whether they be home-makers, students, or women who work for a living. Like any other problem the solution will never be simple as it looks to be. Various factors will always influence the work and not all initial engagements may be successful. What’s most important though is that you never give up on this. The people working on this project must be fully motivated and ready to take action. We can discuss endlessly the possibilities on how we can engage women with technology, but unless we go out and take action nothing will be achieved. We may just be a drop of water, but that also means we have the potential to become a part of the ocean. Let’s start a typhoon.

It would be nice to break this away from being a "gender issue" and more into a "people who are different from you" issue. If it is OK to be different in a culture, it is probably also OK to think differently. If it is OK to think differently, it is probably OK to ask questions, to politely disagree, and OK to have a different idea. If it is OK to do these things, the product is more likely to have bugs/kinks/problems worked out. It is less likely to randomly not be what the customers actually wanted. This is all because the different people are likely to each approach the idea from a different angle, and pick out the problems that way. Having a culture where it is OK to be different is likely to make a relatively homogenous group of men more happy because even though they are similar, all individuals are different. In a culture where being different is OK, they will not worry that their individuality will negatively impact their evaluations. Making them happy makes them more productive at no cost to you, and makes you more money.

Why more women are not using technology
Kallol Ahmed,
info@1di.org

Technology is means, not the goal. Since we could not develop contents and services that would be useful for women in Bangladesh, we get less participation. Our online space is not even safe for women to post things freely avoiding negative comments. At the same time, technologies are often expensive and women are not always in control of financial decisions of their families, resulting into lesser access. These are only a few of the findings I got in my research on the women of Dhaka.

Why women in technology is needed
Sakeeb Rahman,
rahman.sakeeb@gmail.com
2015/02/09

I think the reason why we need more women building technology is threefold, I will outline below. #1. Diversity leads to better products and results: More women engineers means building a better Internet, and improving software that can service society as a whole. #2. The Internet is the largest recording of human history ever built: this means woman need to be an integral part of it as well. #3. Women in 10 years need to be able to provide for themselves, and their families: We have to start educating young girls about this now, or they may ultimately become the poorest demographic among us.
